Maybe I’m just delusional from the lack of sleep caused by having the roof of my home torn off and nailed back in place at 6 am on a Saturday morning... But I was just daydreaming about how awesome a Focus RS 5 cylinder turbo swapped into my 67 coupe would be.

Did ford ever make the 5 cyl turbo availible as a crate motor?

Not that I know of. I don’t think the 5 cyl was ever used or homoligated for any race series which would have made it a good candidate for a crate engine. I did a cursory glance of the ford racing parts website and I didn’t see any indication of it. I don’t really remember seeing it in the catalog I had from 2012 either.

I think it’s just kind of an oddball engine that met their power requirements without having to do an engine program to go along with a performance car. Keep in mind, the Focus WRC used a 2L Duratec in accordance with the FIA rules and it’s likely that all of the touring cars used the same engine as well.

That would be so freckin’ cool. Man I just love/hate/don’t know what to do with my self, about those port hole windows.

Yeah I don’t think they did. The rumor I heard was that the 5 cylinder engine was actually a re-badged Volvo engine. When Ford sold Volvo off, the engine disappeared from their cars.

Yes.

Not at all a rumor. It is actually a (tuned) version of the T5 throughout Volvo's mid-oughts lineup, from the S40 to the S80 and XC90.

That would be an incredible swap. Great idea.

Ah, thanks for the info. Now all I need is to source a wrecked XC90.

Or graft two of them together for a bi turbo v10 mustang... Jesus christ that would sound amazing...

You may consider the T5 from the S60R/V70R, and the 3.2L I6 (essentially the 2.5 with an extra cylinder), depending on what performance profile you're seeking.

Noted. When I become Scrooge McDuck rich, I will attempt this.
